Since that time I have been unable to open any MS Office files. Now I can't do any work, and I am losing time, money and energy. Every time I try to open a file, I only get the tremendously helpful MS message: 'Something went wrong.
We couldn't start your program. Please try again. The support system directed met some instructions from Anula. I tried to follow Anula's instructions posted in a previous thread on the same problem. However, I found them to be incomplete and misleading. For example, she says to select the 'Control Panel' and then 'Programs and Features'. However, I eventually worked-out that her instructions omitted one vital step completely. You must click 'Programs' from the control panel to get to 'Programs and Features'.
I guess I have more wasted days to look forward to. This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread.

Office crashes each time I try to open my work letterheads. There's hundreds of letters I can't access now. But it opens other documents that aren't the letterhead.
I tried 'repair' but that did nothing so I tried 'online repair' and got the brilliant answer 'can't access the internet - check your connection'! Despite writing this post. This Office version has been trouble ever since I first installed it months ago; Outlook is a constant battle, Word now crashing and Access losing databases. I don't have to be a mechanic to drive a car so why do I need to be an extremely expert computer technician to use a computer.
Meanwhile Microsoft remain deafeningly silent and rake in the dollars. I have the same problem. None of my Office programs will open. I haven't done anything to modify the computer at all, so it isn't my fault. Girish M. I am just an ordinary person. I am not so stupid as to be able to work out one thing, however: I was foolish to trust Microsoft products to actually work. They have only cost me grief, stress, and lost time and money. I have now spent a couple of days trying various ways to repair Office -- without any success.
With a backup copy of your workbook, you'll always have access to your data if your workbook is deleted accidentally or if it becomes corrupted.
In the General Options dialog box, check the Always create backup box. A recovery file of your workbook also helps ensure you'll have access to your data if your workbook is deleted accidentally or if it becomes corrupted. In the Save category, under Save workbooks , check the Save AutoRecover information every box, and then enter a number of minutes.
The default is In the AutoRecover file location box, enter the location where you want to save the recovery file. Make sure that the Disable AutoRecover for this workbook only box is unchecked. Need more help?
